Job Outlook

The projected growth of this occupation is 5%, which is about 6000 jobs. This rate is slower than the average for all occupations. Although the growth of population and income are expected to increase the demand for high-quality food, employment will still be limited in an effort to lower restaurant costs.

The chefs with the most work experience are most likely to have the best job opportunities. Jobs will open up mainly to replace workers who leave this fast pace, long hour, high energy level occupation. In high pay locations there will be strong competition, but if chefs have experience and strong workplace skills they will have higher chances of getting a job.
